Funny Bing Sutt Lunch Mat

Regular price ¥1,500 ¥0

Bing Sutt, literally means ‘ice room’.  In 1950s, fridges were not popular in HK, and people’s lives were relatively poor, Bing Sutt is a place serving cold, ice drinks and affordable, quick meals with a western influence.  Bing Sutts were booming in 50s and 60s in different neighbourhoods, and were believed to be the predecessor of Cha Chaan Tengs (Western Tea Restaurant).

Our original “Neighbourhood Bing Sutt” lunch mat pays tribute to the traditional interior decor in Bing Sutt. The menu and scribbled order note are squeezed under the glass at each dining table. Waiters have a special coding system to write the orders as fast as they can, such as “Dong Ning Cha” (Ice Lemon Tea) is written as “O T”. We made a creative twist on this dining mat. We sew the order note onto the menu as a little cute pocket for you to put cutlery.
